Black Friday is a pretty big deal in the United States, at least in terms of shopping/retail. It's like a special holiday for people who can't stand to have too much cash in their wallets, purses, or bank accounts!
The problem is that it's no longer very easy to get your hands on the best "deals" being offered in those big brick-and-mortar stores. The "consumer competition" levels have skyrocketed in recent years, thanks to more free-flowing information channels (thanks internet!) and a bad economy that seems to turn normal people into deal-searching lunatic zombies.
