HTC Incredible Droid Phone Coming Soon

The HTC "Incredible" smartphone is about to be released on April 29th... and it certainly seems to live up to its name. The Droid phone is packed with powerful features and best-in-industry hardware and it hopes to battle the new iPhones and Blackberries set to be released soon.

The Incredible features a blazing-fast 1 GHz Snapdragon processor running Google's multi-tasking capable Android 2.1 operating system. It also has a truly incredible 8 megapixel built-in camera with autofocus and LED flash. It comes with 8 GB of internal memory but can easily be upgraded to 32 GB using swappable microSD external memory.

The biggest drawback of the HTC Incredible appears to be that you can't use both voice and data at the same time. It's multimedia capabilities also seem to be a little weaker than other top-level smartphones.

Vigorous Exercise Beats Depression

Doing about 25 minutes of vigorous exercise every day can reduce stress, boost your sense of well-being, and even help you avoid depression, according to new research. Experts believe that physical exercise should be prescribed more often as a treatment for depression and/or anxiety disorders, by itself or in conjunction with medications.

People who exercise often almost always have lower levels of stress and anger. They also usually feel more focused, calm, and engaged. Researchers believe that exercise may affect the brain in a way that's similar to the action of pharmaceutical antidepressants and may help to re-establish positive feelings and behaviors in depressed people.

According to psychologist and professor Jasper Smits:
"After just 25 minutes, your mood improves, you are less stressed, you have more energy – and you'll be motivated to exercise again tomorrow. A bad mood is no longer a barrier to exercise – it is the very reason to exercise."

WePad Tablet PC = Apple iPad Rival

A new touch screen tablet computer called the "WePad" is set to be released soon and many experts believe it will pose a serious challenge to Apple's iPad product. The German-made machine boasts a bigger screen, USB ports, and a webcam.

The basic version of the WePad -- with 16 gigabytes of storage and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity -- will cost about $600. A larger 32 gig version will also be available. It's German makers hope that it will be looked at as a better bargain than the iPad, mainly due to its higher level of "openness" and higher-level technology.

The new product will be released in July and will feature a Linux operating system, compatibility with Google's Android OS, and a full open source office suite software package.

Las Vegas Strip Casinos Post 33% Gain in February

Casinos on the Las Vegas Strip posted a 33% gain in February, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board. That's their biggest year-over-year increase in win percentage since November of 1999! Unfortunately other off-Strip areas of the city won less than they did the year before, underscoring Vegas's serious economic problems.

Experts say that the Chinese New Year and the Super Bowl helped Strip casinos significantly. They posted a gross win of nearly $570 million dollars in February. Statewide casino wins were up about 14% from the previous year, only the second increase in the past 26 months.

So overall, a very good month for Las Vegas. Let's see if Sin City can keep it up...

FDA: Fat-Melting "Lipodissolve" Injections Not Approved

The US FDA has begun cracking down on people who offer fat-melting "lipodissolve" injections. They say that the nonsurgical method to dissolve body fat is not approved and may have serious side effects.

The injections are being promoted as a "no-knife" alternative to liposuction and other fat-removing surgeries. Promoters say that they can help dissolve small fat deposits in the belly, thighs, and arms. But the FDA released a statement yesterday saying that it is "not aware of any credible scientific evidence that supports the effectiveness of any of these substances for fat elimination."

FDA officials also say they've received reports of lipodissolve patients with permanent scarring, dark skin spots, and even hard lumps left after the treatment. So obviously if you're looking for a way to get rid of your ugly body fat you should think twice before giving this unapproved treatment a try!

HP Slate Tablet Specs, Price Released

More information related to HP's new Slate tablet computer have been released, or at least "leaked". An internal memo has been found that compares the Slate to Apples new iPad computer. It appears that the Slate will come in two flavors, a 32GB version for $550 and a 64GB version for $600.

We think most people will pay the $50 cost for double the memory.

The Slate will also have a USB port, an SD card reader, HDMI-out connection, a 3 MP camera, a high-quality webcam built-in, and a conventional SIM-card tray.

The biggest "problem" facing the Slate? It runs Windows 7, which is a vastly improved version of the Windows operating system but is not designed to run on a touch-screen interface. Maybe Microsoft will release some sort of fix that will change that before the Slate's June 2010 release date!

People Still Moving to Las Vegas

The painful economic slowdown of the past couple years has hurt Las Vegas, Nevada more than most other cities. Home values, tourism, and gambling numbers are way down. Unemployment is way up. But according to U-Haul lots of people are still moving to Sin City!

In fact it's number 2 in the US, right behind Houston -- 2 spots above where it was last year. U-Haul says that the data is extracted from over a million moving truck rental transactions from the past year.

Many experts say that people are beginning to move to Vegas again because home prices are now so much more affordable. Also the warmer climate helps, especially with older retirees. Other West Coast cities also made it into the top 30, including Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Fransisco.

Le Whif Lets You Inhale Your Caffeine

Le Whif is a new product that allows you to inhale a shot of coffee when you need a quick energy boost. It looks like a tube of lipstick and contains a breathable powder that's loaded with caffeine (about 100 mg, equal to a double espresso).

David Edwards, a professor from Harvard, invented Le Whif a couple years ago and the products have caught on after some free publicity from Oprah and the New York Times. His first product was an inhalable chocolate powder that gives you a delicious taste of chocolate for about 1 calorie!

The new "organic" Le Whif coffee products sell for about $3 a stick. We think they'll get much more popular in the near future and several similar breathable energy-boosters will follow in their success!
