Body mass index (BMI), one of the best measurements of overall body fat levels, fell greatly, from 35.3 to 27.5 on average. But probably the biggest surprise of the study was this: volunteers on the calorie-restricted diet were able to stop taking their daily insulin injections! According to study leader, Dr. Sebastiaan Hammer:
"It was very striking to us to see how a relatively simple intervention such as a very-low-calorie diet effectively cures type 2 diabetes mellitus."We say: This is GREAT news for people who suffer from diabetes! Just basically starve yourself for a few months and you'll cure/treat yourself naturally. Or you could just stick to boring old balanced diet, regular exercise, and smart supplementation... but where's the fun in that??
