US Stocks Fall 1000 Points, Then Come Back

The United States stock market fell nearly 1000 points in less than 30 minutes today, marking one of the most turbulent moments and days in its history. Fortunately it quickly rebounded and recovered about two-thirds of its losses, ending with a loss of "only" 347 at the closing bell.

The crazy drop was partially caused by fears that Greece's financial crisis will hurt all of Europe's economy, as well as that of the US. But it may have been due more to a freak accident involving a trader who mistakenly tried to sell 16 billion futures instead of 16 million, which in turn set of all kinds of automatic computer sell orders.

This was the biggest drop EVER in a single trading day for the US Dow. It's becoming more and more obvious that the economic problems affecting the US and the entire world are far from being resolved...

Too Little Sleep = Early Death!

Researchers have found a link between early death and too little sleep. Apparently people who consistently get fewer than 6 hours of sleep per night have a significantly greater chance of dying younger than those who get more rest.

Interestingly, people who get too much sleep (over 9 hours per night on a consistent basis) also have a greater risk of premature death. Experts agree that for optimal health most people should get between 6 and 8 hours of sleep each and every evening.

5 Minutes of Outdoor Exercise = Better Mental Health, More Self-Esteem

Spending just 5 minutes exercising outdoors every day can quickly and significantly improve your mental health and boost your self esteem, according to new research out of England. "Green" activities like walking, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, or even gardening appear to boost the mood greatly and improve a sense of overall well-being, even when done in small amounts.

According to one researcher:
"We believe that there would be a large potential benefit to individuals, society and to the costs of the health service if all groups of people were to self-medicate more with green exercise."
All natural outdoor environments appear to be beneficial, including city parks. But areas with water have the most positive mental health effects!

Baby's Breath Flower Might Help Treat Cancer

An extract from the common Baby's Breath flower appears to boost the effectiveness of cancer-fighting drugs greatly, according to new research from England. Compounds called saponins extracted from the flower appear to have an incredibly powerful ability to break down the outer membranes of cancer cells.

This allows the newer antibody-based cancer drugs, called "immunotoxins", attack the cancerous cells. The end result is that immunotherapy treatments used to treat leukemia and lymphoma cancers can be made over a million times more potent!

According to research Dr David Flavell:
"I am usually careful about the words I use with things like this but this discovery could truly revolutionize the way these antibody-based drugs work and it will save lives... And this doesn't just apply to leukemia , there is a really big possibility this can be used for many cancers too... This is a potentially very important discovery that could allow us to kill leukemia cells in the patient much more effectively with much lower doses of immunotoxin... The challenge now is to establish how best to apply this laboratory discovery to the treatment of patients."
Experts say that clinical trials using the Baby's Breath extract will soon begin. Hopefully thousands of cancer patients from around the world will benefit from this incredibly discovery!
