Las Vegas Has a New Mayor... Kind Of

For the first time since 1999 Las Vegas, Nevada has a new mayor. Carolyn Goodman easily won today's mayoral election in Sin City. She will replace her famous husband Oscar Goodman, who's only stepping down becomes of term-limit rules.

Goodman got over 60% of the vote, beating the pants off of Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani. In a relatively unexciting election race, she promised to continue to build on her husband's work. Turning around Vegas's horrible economy is, according to Goodman, job number 1 (we agree!).

The Goodmans say they are the "Happiest Couple in the Universe" and most Vegas locals assume that Oscar will have A LOT of influence during his wife's term. That's probably both a good thing, since he was one of the most colorful and interesting mayors in US history.

We say: We like Oscar a lot and we hope he and Carolyn can turn things around in our home city. Hopefully they'll continue to push development in Downtown while helping to improve overall tourism numbers. Also, we sincerely hope that Oscar continues to show up at important public events with martinis and super-sexy Vegas showgirls at every possible opportunity!
